Today we interview Chris Hill, Technical Services Manager at So Organic.

What is it about the organic industry that you like?
It is a growing industry and more and more people are thinking about eliminating chemicals from their lifestyle choices. It's good to be able to help people make that change, help them become more aware about what's really going on.

What is your favourite organic and why?
I use Green People products a lot. They've got a good men's range, particularly the shower gels and shampoos. I also use the Barefoot Botanicals range - the shaving crème and the aftershave. The Barefoot Botanicals shaving crème is the nicest one I've tried. It smells of grapefruit so has quite a refreshing smell to it and feels good on the skin as well. Plus you get a good shave with it, at least the bits I do shave! (Chris has a goaty)

What environmental issues are of most concern to you?
Going back to my old job, working with a marine oceanographic company where I was quite heavily involved in the marine environment, the health of our coastlines and local beaches. I was quite involved with monitoring bodies of water, pollution and how it affected coastlines and pollution.

If you had £1 million what would you do with it?
After a holiday and a nice eco friendly sports car. Although that's a contradiction in term really isn't it?!

What latest environmental innovations most grab your interest?
The solar powered car in an article I read recently that was going for the world land and water speed record. It was a car/boat that could travel on water or land and they were going for both the sailing speed record and the land speed record. So it was solar powered for the car and wind powered for the boat side of it. I think they were testing it on a dry lake somewhere so it was nice and flat and it go on for miles. There was another one recently by a British crew - they went to this dry lake and ended up having to abandon the mission because it became too wet. They blamed it on climate change... which is a bit ironic really isn't it!

Do your family and friends share these interests?
My mum does, she orders from us (SoOrganic). Mainly the Ecover cleaning products. The old cleaning products my dad found quite itchy and buying the eco-friendly products has cured that. They use to buy the natural products when we were living in Belgium about 20 years ago too. When you go to certain holiday spots in Europe they only let you use the earth friendly products so as a family we were actually using them years ago. A lot of the natural products are very similar to what people used 20, 30, 40 years ago.

How do you envision the world in 30 years time from an environmental perspective?
Hopefully we will be more aware of our environment. Things people are doing now, it's hard to imagine seeing the effects of in 30 years time. I don't think enough people think about that at the moment. So it will probably take another 10 to 15 years for people to be really thinking about it. Some are. Some say ‘there's nothing we can do about it (climate change), it's going to happen anyway', ‘some say if we start things now we can make a difference'. Everybody does their own little bit but a lot of people think ‘it's not going to help if I turn my light off, it's not going to have a huge effect'. I don't think enough people believe they can help. If everyone does it, it will.
