Why should I use a facial serum?

29 Jul 2011 01:00:00

Add and facial serum and boost your skin care regimeIf you’re generally happy with your skin care regime but if you feel that your skin needs a little extra boost then a facial serum could be the answer.

Serums come in two forms, either a light water based gel consistency, which are great for hydrating the skin, or oil based serums which are good for counteracting dryness.  Skin that lacks water is described as being dehydrated whereas skin lacking oil is described as dry.

Both dehydration and dryness tend to affect skin as it ages, which is why serums tend to feature heavily in anti ageing skin care ranges. However, virtually everyone’s skin is dehydrated so a hydrating serum is an addition to the skin care routine that almost everyone will see a benefit from regardless of age.

You apply your serum after cleaning and toning and before applying your moisturiser or night cream so that this extra moisturising or hydrating layer is locked in. You only need to use a tiny bit so even though serums can sometimes seem quite expensive they are really good value.

Our skin changes throughout the year, the seasons, central heating and our general health and well being can all affect the way our skin looks and feels. Serums are a brilliant way to help your skin through these challenges whilst being able to stick with your favourite products for your core regime.

Spring Make-Up trends 2011

21 Dec 2010 17:35:06

After the excitement of Christmas, when the January blues set many of us look forward to Spring, desperate to break out our sandals and spring outfits despite the freezing temperatures. A sure route to let the already rampant sniffles take their hold!

However make-up and hair styles can be updated in anticipation of the changing seasons without the risk of doctors waiting rooms, and the predicted trends for Spring 2011 are enough to sate the appetite for change.

First of beautiful bright lips were seen all over the catwalks in a variety of shades, oranges and watermelon was especially popular and the Lavera Sunset Orange and Dr. Hauschka Soft Coral especially fit the bill.

If you prefer to make your eyes the main feature of you face then bold popping colours were everywhere, for the fashionista the Nvey 160 Turquoise Shimmer makes an impact, but for the more conservative try Green People’s Eco Eye Trio in Aqua to create as much or as little impact as you like. When making the eyes the focus it’s best to keep lips nude but soft looking, try the Barefoot Botanical Smooch Penetrating Lip Salve for kissable lips!

In terms of hair, the most prominent trends were side partings held in place with pins or a clip, ‘messy’ up dos for a casual chic or high buns for high glamour. Using a paddle brush will help you achieve all this looks and the Hair Spray by Lavera or John Masters Hair Texturiser will keep styles in place all day.

Last night I was at a lovely drinks reception Whole foods Market, Kensington, for the announcement of the Who’s who in Natural beauty 2011.
Sam Burlton founder of So Organic with her baby daughter
It’s a list of those people who really make an impact in the world of natural beauty, voted for by their peers, the retailers, manufacturers and consultants to the industry and it’s a huge honour to make your way onto the list.

My jaw nearly hit the floor, when the list was revealed and my name was way up there at the top in 2nd place, only behind Simon and Rhodri the lovely guys behind the Bulldog brand.

I’m absolutely thrilled to be on the Who’s who in natural beauty list again and owe a huge thank you to all of my peers who voted for me and to my fantastic team here at So Organic HQ who help me so much.  Thanks to you all.

body oil to make you feel fab!

13 Oct 2010 01:00:00

Since the birth of my daughter Lily, earlier this year, I've noticed that my body suddenly feels a lot older, my joints ache and my skin seems to have lost some of it's youthful elasticity. Pregnancy hasn't quite aged me by 20 years, but some mornings it almost feels that way, and I know many of my friends who are new mums tend to agree.
weleda pomegranate body oil

So, when I discovered something that lifts my spirits when I use it each morning and leaves my skin feeling silky soft and regenerated I just had to share it.

Pomegranate Regenerating Body Oil by Weleda smells heavenly and has a lovely light consistency that absorbs quickly yet leaves skin feeling silky smooth.

I use this product in the morning, and I don’t have time to wait around for it to soak in, so when I say it absorbs quickly I really mean it. Since I’ve been using it my skin looks noticeably smoother and firmer, so much so that it reminds me of my pre-pregnancy self!

It is quite pricey at £19.95 but my bottle has lasted ages since you only need to use a small amount, so I feel it represents really good value for money.

At So Organic we are always looking for innovative organic and natural brands that really deliver.  We were delighted with the new Evolve Range, after trying it we all became addicted to the great fragrances and amazing textures.  Developed by Laura Rudoe to be accessible yet desirable, the range seeks to make green living the norm not the exception.  Laura knows her stuff she developed the gorgeous Nude natural products and spends a huge amount of time and energy sourcing rare and unusual ingredients to use in her products.

The ranges uses masses of food based ingredients some of which are based on superfoods like goji berries and pomegranate, great on your plate and also on your face!  Our hero products are the amazing Skin Glow Body Cream, a natural gradual fake tanner which leaves skin super soft and radiant, use it to prolong your summer tan.  The Gentle Cleansing Melt can be applied to damp skin morning and evening, it removes dirt and make up gently, skin never feels tight and we noticed it really improves skin long term.

It is not just what goes in to her products that Laura is proud of, her packaging is made from old milk bottles in the UK and is fully recyclable, they also look great in the bathroom, are light enough to take on holiday and to the gym. Organic is certainly evolving!
